70K views · 3.6K reactions | Three of Pope Leo XIV’s most powerful American cardinals spent several days in Silicon Valley meeting privately with leaders developing frontier artificial intelligence. Then Cardinal Robert McElroy revealed the trip and issued an extraordinary warning: “Millions of workers who have jobs now will not have those jobs 10 years from now.” Within 20 years, he believes the labor market will be radically changed. That raises an enormous Christian question. If artificial intelligence creates unprecedented wealth while simultaneously eliminating millions of jobs, who benefits from that wealth? Catholic social teaching has always insisted that the economy exists to serve human beings. The coming AI revolution may test how seriously we believe that. Follow Message From the Margins because we are going to stay on this story. And if you want the deeper conversations about Scripture, Christianity, culture, and the world we are building, watch the Message From the Margins Podcast.
